Ingres Corporation and Red Hat are teaming up in a joint keynote presentation at the upcoming "Open Source Meets Business" congress for CIOs, CTOs, and IT decision makers. The event is scheduled for January 27 - 29 in the CongressCenter Nuremberg.

Tom Berquist, CFO at Ingres, will co-host a keynote with Sacha Labourey, CTO of Red Hat's JBoss Division entitled "Open Source Stack - a Prudent Choice - Not Only - when the Economy Gets Tough." The presentation will compare a closed stack platform approach with a business open source-based platform stack approach. Flexibility, transparency, predictability alongside with direct cost implications (upfront and running) will be discussed with practical examples. Berquist and Labourey will outline the benefits for end-user customers, as well as ISVs and system integrators, can achieve from a reliable and scalable open source stack combining operating system, middleware and database and mission critical 24/7 support capabilities. This presentation comes at a crucial time - when the market has dropped to a level the world hasn't seen for some ten years.

In 2008, Ingres and Red Hat jointly hosted the "Come2Chill" event for ISVs and system integrators in Europe. As part of the congress, Ingres and Red Hat are also hosting a Chill Lounge where attendees can learn more about Red Hat, Ingres, and the solution stack that combines three core components, including the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 operating system, Ingres Database, and JBoss Enterprise Middleware.  Combined, the solutions will offer ISVs a cost-effective and solution-independent platform on which they can base further applications tailored to the specific requirements of customer projects.

The "Open Source Meets Business" congress is in its fourth year and has established itself as a platform for best practice, vision, and networking in the open source space. Decision makers from all industries and organizational sizes, IT users and suppliers, community members, investors and promoters meet at the conference to learn and speak about open source and its business potential.

Ingres will be featured in more than a dozen of this year's presentations. Emma McGrattan, senior vice president of engineering at Ingres, will discuss open source interoperability, and Konrad Hartmann, manager of business development for the Ingres European Technology Center will discuss government intelligence. Ingres customer, the town of Schwäbisch Hall, will highlight its successful development of their communal meeting management tool based on Ingres Database, the leading open source database that helps organizations develop and manage business critical applications at an affordable cost. In addition, Wilken GmbH, Telecomputer, OTRS, Ancud IT, Talend and the Linux Kommunale will feature Ingres in their diverse sessions.
